TORONTO, May 15, 2018 – NRStor Inc., a Toronto-based energy storage project developer, is pleased to share its commitment to improving diversity in the energy sector by signing on to the Equal by 30 Campaign. The Equal by 30 campaign is grounded in Sustainable Development Goal number 5 which aims to “achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls by 2030”. To achieve gender equality in the energy sector would mean achieving equal opportunity, equal pay and equal leadership.
The energy sector remains one of the least gender diverse sectors with women representing only 35 percent of the clean energy workforce internationally. In Canada, it is only 25 percent. Closing this gender gap will be vital in accelerating the pace of innovation and progress needed to achieve the clean energy transition.
“We achieve success in our business and our industry when we bring together the talents and perspectives of diverse sets of people. We need women and men to work together, on an equal playing field, in order to deliver the best results,” said Annette Verschuren, Chair and CEO of NRStor. “Diversity and inclusion are key to growing not only our company, but the energy sector and our economy more broadly.”
“Women are a key part of the transition to a low carbon future, and will play important roles in bringing renewable energy onto the grid, accelerating innovation in clean energy technologies, and encouraging energy efficiency,” said Kim Rudd, Parliamentary Secretary to Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources. “I’m pleased to see NRStor Inc. demonstrating leadership today by committing to principles of equal pay, equal opportunity and equal leadership, and helping to ensure that the global shift to a low-carbon economy results in growth that is inclusive, and where the benefits are shared.”
NRStor will continue its commitment to gender equality and the inclusion of women by providing equal opportunities, equal pay and equal leadership roles for women and men across the company.
