The 2025 Energy Storage Milestone Award was presented to Oneida Energy Storage LP. The Oneida project, a 250 MW/1,000 MWh battery facility now operating in Ontario, is currently the largest of its kind in Canada.

Honoured for its exceptional worksite safety performance in delivering Canada’s largest operational energy storage facility. Five project partners — Northland Power, Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation, Aecon, NRStor and Mississaugas of the Credit Business Corporation — collaborated to build a safety culture that put workers first, supported by a joint monitoring framework, extensive workforce training and over 550 safety inspections.

NRStor Inc. is pleased to announce that the Independent Electricity System Operator has signed an Energy Storage Facility Agreement (ESFA) for the Oneida Energy Storage Project. This agreement marks a major milestone in the project’s development, following an Order-in-Council and Ministerial Directive from the Government of Ontario that allows the project to proceed.

The project is also notable for its collaborative approach, as a 50:50 joint venture developed in partnership with Indigenous communities.

As part of an IESO research program, NRStor Inc. has developed a solar-energy storage facility in Minto, one hour north of Kitchener. The facility combines a 50 kW rooftop solar array with an existing 2 MW flywheel energy storage system. Pairing energy storage with solar or wind generation can play a key role in meeting the province’s growing electricity needs.
