Simcoe Battery Project

Project Summary

NRStor Inc., Mississaugas of the Credit Business Corporation (“MCBC”), Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation (“SNGRDC”) and Aecon (collectively “The Project Partners”) are developing a Battery Energy Storage System (“BESS”), 150 MW, 1200 MWh in size in Norfolk County, near Simcoe, through the jointly owned organization, Simcoe Battery Project GP Inc. (“Simcoe Battery Project”). The development efforts are in response to the LT2 window one Long-Term Capacity Services Project RFP issued by the Government of Ontario through the IESO.

Co-developing this project with the Mississaugas of the Credit Business Corporation and Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation provides a pathway towards shared long-term benefits and meaningful economic reconciliation.

Project Updates

The Partners will have opportunities for engagement throughout the entire development process to ensure overall public support of the project, which includes the public open house, mail outs, regular updates to the project website, and responding to any inquiries sent to the project contact.
  • November 6, 2023 – Project website launch with November 28th Open House details posted
  • November 6, 2023 – Project information mailout, including a letter and advertisement for the November 28th open house, sent to neighbouring landowners, residents, businesses and local organizations through registered mail
  • November 15, 2023 – Project presented to Mayor and Councillor at Nork County Council-in-Committee Meeting and received approval for a Municipal Support Resolution
  • November 28, 2023 – Project open house held
  • December 1, 2023 – November 28th Open House meeting minutes posted
  • July 25, 2025 – Mail out on Project updates to 5400 residential homes, businesses and other organizations within a 1.5 km radius through the Notice of Study Commencement for the Class Environmental Assessment for Transmission Facilities (2024)
