Steelport Battery Project
Project Summary
NRStor Inc., Mississaugas of the Credit Business Corporation, Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation and Aecon (collectively “The Project Partners”) are developing a battery energy storage system of up to 150 MW, 1,200 MWh in size at Steelport in the city of Hamilton. This project is being developed through the jointly owned organization, Steelport Battery Project Inc. These development efforts are in response to the Long-Term Capacity Services Project Request for Proposals window one (LT2c-1) issued by the Government of Ontario through the Independent Electricity Systems Operator.
Battery energy storage systems are an emissions free method of sustainably meeting the increasing demand for electricity in Ontario and offer an alternative to traditional technologies that are dependent on fossil fuels. The Steelport Battery Project will reduce emissions and support the province in transitioning to clean energy. It will simultaneously offer a pathway towards meaningful economic reconciliation with Indigenous communities.
